It took a walk in the woods to come up with some lush greens to mark the first day of spring and although all that appeared were mosses, they were at least mostly clear of snow. Ice still remains in the harbors, but has lost ground along the Lake Michigan shore, giving way to several pair of geese.
It may be possible that strong north winds affected the growing pattern of these two clumps of cedar trees, making one of the trunks on the right almost ribbon-like.
Moving from the out-of-doors to inside the office at Sievers, we continue to receive new yarns, books and handmade items for the shop. Soon it will be time to freshen up all the buildings as we anticipate the start of our 2017 season.
As a reminder, the application date for Sievers Scholarships is April 1. Scholarships are available for Sievers alumni or for new students. Those awarded scholarships will be notified by April 10. For more information or to apply, please email us at mail@sieversschool.com or contact us at https://sieversschool.com/contact/ .
We look forward to hosting the 2017 Washington Island Quilts of Valor event for a few days at the end of March and early April in the Sophie Studio.
Green will gladly give way to red, white and blue!

love yourpictures still 2 students? How is Ann doing? give her a hello
Yes on the students. I’ll say hello and we’re all doing great!
Luscious green!!!!
We can’t see enough of it this time of year!
Morning! Always love your blog! Can you tell me about the Quilts of Valor? Tina
The Island has had teams of quilters do this for the past five years or so, led by Ellen Graf and Marianne Fons. Quilts go to servicemembers and veterans who have been “touched by war”. There is a national QOV Foundation and about 100,000 quilts have been made and given in the past 13+ years. A touching and worthy effort!
It is so good to see some “green”.
Thank you for the comforting cards. We are blessed!
Hugs
Eileen
Hope you are doing well, Eileen. Take care! Carolyn
Love seeing the island wake up for spring – and you have a wonderful “eye” Carolyn and always capture such amazing sights as you wander all around the island for us! The Quilts of Valor group will have a busy time (and lots of fun doing it) turning out Ellen’s gorgeous quilts – wish I could join in. Hope all are well – we appreciate your “busy-ness” waiting for us to arrive.
Thanks Anne! A little sunshine and things will be turning green quickly. We’re looking forward to spring and then seeing all of our Sievers friends!
