The last day of our 2020 season of classes was as always, bittersweet. We missed seeing so many of you this year, teachers and students alike. On the other hand, we were grateful for the classes that were able to be held. By early March, we had already registered 305 students. In the end, we had 41 students attend two open studio sessions and six classes taught by five instructors, two of which live on Washington Island. We also rented the studios three separate times to Sievers alumni. Going back, only the first year of classes in 1979 had a comparable number of students…33.
That being said, it’s not quantity, it’s quality! And we finished the season in the same way we’ve done for many years now, with Deb Sharpee’s Rag Rug Weaving class. Four students, weaving at four corners of the studio, turning their collected, dyed-at-home or coordinating fabrics into rugs.
Now that we’re in November, our fall colors are fading very fast or have already fallen to the ground, but we hold in our memory these scenes from the last week of October.
After the last class, we start chatting about next year. Right now, our goal is to see all of you! Since the start of classes will be several months from now, we want to say hello to you today from the shop and office. We miss you!

We’ve navigated through this year with your warm comments, thoughts and wishes. Thank you! With those in mind, we’ll be using the days ahead to set our course for 2021.

We can’t wait either!
Missed seeing everyone. I am looking forward to being at a Seivers in 2021.
We missed you too, Kathi and we’re looking forward to your return!
I love you and miss you.
Thank you Mary! And for the wonderful baskets you sent. We’ve found several ways to use and/or display them!
Love seeing those smiling unmasked faces! Miss all of you too and hope to see you next year. Be well, stay warm, happy and I am sure I do not have to remind you to be hopeful – I know better days are coming in the future for all of us.
Love, Linda
Hi Linda,
We’re just hoping for the day we can be unmasked within the office! Maybe it will help keep our faces warm in the wintery days ahead. Love from all of us to you!
Looking forward to better days ahead. The photos of you, the weavings and the island are all so lovely. Have a wonderful winter…I’ll look forward to seeing photos of the beauty on the island throughout the season.
Thanks, Dawn! I love seeing the posts of your work on Instagram. Fabulous! Thanks for your nice comments and take good care!
Looking forward to next year! I’m so glad I got to see you this year even though class was cancelled. Love Washington Island and my Sievers’s sisters. :0)
Hi Kathy,
We love being your “Sievers sisters”! It was such a wonderful surprise to see you and visit with you in the shop this fall. Until next time…
Carolyn your newsletters are very good. Should not waited so long to do computer stuff. Guess you still can teach a old dog new tricks. I miss Sievers very much. Cindra and Ann are such wonderful people. Remember jetting Walter the first time at the hospital, when he was a patient, Imogene and I fell in love with him, he was designing a guilting something or other. It was a few years before we could arrange a class at Sievers. Wonderful memories! Thanks so much all of you.
Hi Carol,
I think that must’ve been a quilting frame. One of many Walter’s inventions. Some haven’t lasted so long, but his idea for Sievers School was the best! We’re all so lucky to have known him and still, not many days go by when we don’t think of him or reference something he said or did. What a legacy! Take care, Carolyn
Hi to everyone at Sievers
It’s good to see that you are all doing well. We were supposed to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary this year engaged in several events – a party – a trip to Ireland with the boys – a Med. cruise from Barcelona to Italy. None of that happened due to that good for nothin’ virus. Hopefully we will be on track soon with a vaccine. Hope to see you soon. Barb
Hi Barb,
Your plans sounded wonderful! We do hope you’ll be able to go at some point in the future. Take care and we hope to see you again next year!
Miss you too but hopefully next year we can all be together again – taking classes and enjoying peaceful Washington Island!
Thanks, Carol. We agree 100%!
Better days ahead! Looking forward to next summer and your smiling faces!
Hi Kelly,
Thanks for your nice comments and we’re so glad we were able to see you this summer! Take care,
Carolyn
I can’t wait to get back up there. Hoping for better days ahead Love you all!
Hi Suzanne,
We miss you! How can a year go by without seeing you? Thanks for staying in touch and we hope to see a certain party truck drive in during 2021. Take care and love from all of us at Sievers!
Carolyn
Hoping everyone at Sievers is staying safe and well. So looking forward to seeing all of you next year
Hi Mary,
We’re all doing well and seeing you and all our Batik friends will feel so good! Take care, Carolyn
This summer was so empty without my stay at Sievers. See you next summer.
It sure felt empty around here, too! Looking forward to seeing you in 2021! Take care, Carolyn
So looking forward to weaving at Siever’s in 2021! It is always nice to receive the Newsletter so we can enjoy parts of the island and Siever’s from our home. Wishing you all a very blessed Thanksgiving. We still have a lot to be thankful for in 2020 even though it has been a trying year. Praying everyone stays healthy and that we can see you all next year. Hugs.
We’re looking forward to getting back to a more normal time, too! The studios and looms are too quiet and we miss having you here for class. You’re right, we are thankful for so much, including your friendship! Stay well and have a special, if different, Thanksgiving!
