June has flown by and in two parts we’re catching up on the classes that have led us into July.
Nancy Adams’ Weaving: Four Shafts or Less really has nothing “less” about it, other than the number of harnesses used on the loom. It is definitely a case of “less is more”!
From twills, overshot and stair steps to rep weave, the students’ first and sometimes second projects were as outstanding as they are in any class led by Nancy. Having started at Sievers as a student in 1986, then as a teaching assistant to Louise French, and teaching both Beginning Weaving and all manner of “beyond beginning” weaving subjects since 2007, Nancy has the experience, patience, and virtues of sharing and giving which are the hallmarks of an excellent teacher.

In June, we just can’t have enough batik! Anne Landre led beginners in the ancient and modern (remember?) art of batik. We wish we could show the many stages of each project, from the drawing to the multiple dyeing and waxing steps! There might be six or seven photos of each piece, times four or five projects for each student, times nine students…we’ll leave that math to you. That would result in a multiple blog posts for each students’ work over the four-day class time frame, which would be great, but you might just have to take our word for the transformation that occurs from the start of an idea to the final batiked piece. Or, come for Anne’s class!

As we close out the month, it’s time to share a few more flowers, currently growing along the roadsides. “I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June”. L.M. Montgomery

The last of our June classes (and flowers) in the next post!
