Here we are, for the 48th time, marking the first day of the Sievers season of classes! Today was a little unusual, as we’d been notified about a week ago that all of Jackson Harbor Road and areas beyond would be without electricity from 7am-3pm due to the replacement of power poles. Luckily, we had time to tell those in the Open Quilt Studio that they might not be able to start sewing at the usual 2pm start time. By the time the power came on, sewing machines, fabrics and irons were in place and for the next five days the studios will be filled with the special warmth only quilts (and quilters) can bring.

Although it’s officially Day 1 for classes, the studios have been rented twice in mid-May, including to a group of weavers and to the Washington Island Art Association for their Spring Workshop.

Only a week ago, we could see through the trees as the leaves were still in bud. Today, it’s close to a summer look and feel. Where did the winter go? (Almost) long forgotten on a day like today. Spring wildflowers and blue skies are everywhere.

We anticipate this first day of classes once we start hearing from you in February. It’s exciting when it finally arrives, seeing dear friends and knowing we’ll be meeting new ones from now until the end of October. We’ll say it the same today as we said it 48 years ago, “Come, enjoy, relax, learn. We’ll be waiting for you”.
