Willow and driftwood go together naturally and can be readily used to create one-of-a-kind basket designs. Inspired by her studies with Irish basketmaker Joe Hogan, Jo has developed her own style to share with you. You’ll begin by learning how to build frames from driftwood. Then, thinking of the overall design, you’ll weave with willow to make a basket that can be functional or purely sculptural. One or more pieces may be completed in class, depending on size and complexity.
Jo Campbell-Amsler has used willow in her basketry since 1981. Her work is featured in magazines, books, and seen in exhibits across the U.S., including ‘A Measure of the Earth’ at Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery in DC. Teaching nationally, Jo also co-organizes retreats, The Willow Gathering, and Willow Weekend, and has hosted basket tours to Ireland, Scotland, Spain, France, Denmark, Wales and England. Board member of the National Basketry Organization, she works with fellow board members to “grow the basket community.” www.willowridgebaskets.com.No tags for this post.
