Description
Focus on willow baskets, from harvesting materials, to creating and constructing them. To begin, we will harvest the Sievers willow patch, learn how to strip leaves and sort willow, storage methods, and make cuttings for a home patch. Using the gathered material you’ll construct a variety of frames, learn several lashing types and basic rib-style techniques to make 1 or 2 baskets in class. Experienced weavers may contact Jo ahead of time regarding special projects they’d like to work on.
Jo Campbell-Amsler has used willow in her basketry since 1981. Her work is featured in magazines, books, and seen in exhibits across the U. S., including “A Measure of the Earth” at Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery. She has served on the National Basketry Organization Board. Teaching nationally, Jo also co-organizes retreats, The Willow Gathering and Willow Weekend, and has hosted basketry tours to Ireland, Scotland, Spain, France, Denmark, Wales, England and Italy, visiting with fellow basketmakers and learning new skills. http://www.willowridgebaskets.com
