Description

Open your eyes to the possibilities around you! Natural materials such as willow, bark, iris and daylily leaves, vines and sticks can all be used in a variety of ways for basket weaving. Using willow as the “heart” of the structure, learn a variety of rib-style basket techniques while experimenting and weaving several functional basket styles. Students can expect to weave 2-3 baskets during the workshop along with sample work for future reference.  Experienced willow weavers may contact Jo prior to class regarding special projects.

Jo Campbell-Amsler has been weaving baskets with willow since 1981.  Her work is featured in magazines, books, and seen in exhibits across the U. S., the most recent being “Touchstone: A Half-Century of Craft” in the Speyer Gallery at Falling Water, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. Teaching nationally, Jo has co-organized basketry events:  The Willow Gathering, Willow Weekend and in 2025, The Willow Gathering, a Willow Basket Retreat. She organizes and hosts  basketry tours to Ireland, Scotland, Spain, France, Denmark, Wales, England, Italy and Peru, visiting with fellow basketmakers and learning new skills. 2026 will find her traveling once again to Denmark to work with basketry weavers there.  http://www.willowridgebaskets.com
