Description

Learn different methods to piece a quilt more efficiently as well as how to construct more complicated units.  We’ll introduce techniques such as partial seams, foundation paper piecing, different borders and ways to set quilt blocks, as you sew a small wallhanging, then cover basic drafting to better understand block construction.  Sewing machine in good working order required.

Jackie Barry took a beginning quilt class at Sievers in 2012 and has been hooked ever since, and Ellen Graf  ‘found’ quilting in 1992.  Since then, her quilts have been featured in magazines and won awards.  Both she and Jackie have been featured guests on Mary Fons’ online show, Quilty, as well as the magazine.  Jackie works with a local Illinois charity quilting group, where she has been involved in their annual quilt raffle, as well as taking donated ‘orphan’ quilt blocks and turning them into something fabulous.  Ellen is active in organizing the Washington Island community to make quilts for the Quilts of Valor program.  Their focus is to encourage individual creativity and technique, empowering students to say “I can do it,” while having fun along the way.
