December Days

December 2, 2014 By Carolyn Foss

Small, unexpected surprises are appearing these first few days of December.  A routine trip to the Island Exchange (dump) turns into a unique bird-watching moment. Just down the road from the post office, the first ice has formed on Detroit Harbor. The same is true in Jackson Harbor. Another eagle sighting on Airport Road, across from the vineyard.  Two within a week at close range is a nice treat!    Checking out the vegetation off the back deck, is a “no-fear deer”.  Photo credit: Matt Foss We hope you are looking for small, unexpected surprises, too!

Three Days and Three, Four or Five Baskets

August 26, 2013 By Carolyn Foss

From Friday afternoon until 10:30 this morning, the students in Kay Normann and Drew Tibbetts’ Basket Weaving for Beginners class worked on at least three different styles of basket with an extra one or two if time allowed.  The Washington Island Ferry Line crew will instantly recognize “Sievers” when a number of cars full of baskets pull onto the ferry heading home today. Woven through each basket, we hope, are good memories of their time here in class.
