Whether in the studios, at Sunset Resort, the Red Cup Coffee House, Jackson Harbor Soup and Sandwiches or on the boardwalk, last week’s One-of-a-Kind Jacket class with Mary Sue Fenner and Knitting on Location with Carol Anderson had great locations to sew, knit and show. Starting with handwoven or commercial fabrics, a couple of suitcases of patterns and about 70 Mary Sue Fenner Originals, the week was filled with altering patterns and creating fun and inspiring jackets (and more).
As always, Carol Anderson brings her full line of Cottage Creations patterns, samples, fun stories and knitting expertise to all locations, Sievers and otherwise. The class worked on specific techniques from some of Carol’s patterns and then had their own projects as well.
After studio time and breakfast on the second day of class, those who sat outside knitting on the back deck of the Red Cup were able to watch a mama American Redstart and her fledglings on a test flight. And doesn’t it look like even the yarn and needles enjoyed the blue skies and view over Jackson Harbor?
So soon, it seems, it’s time for the Fashion Show and what a great audience the knitters were. (But how they could knit during the show, I’m not sure. Maybe just a couple stitches in-between garments.) The show really started on the first day with planning, choosing, cutting, sewing and fitting.
Now it’s time to show the end results…
For both classes, we’re already looking forward to next year…on location at Sievers!

I’ve always loved how Siever’s combines creativity, nature and friendships. Can you imagine coming up with these ideas for projects without sharing with one another? And I see the colors of the leaves and rocks and flowers from Washington Island in those beautiful new wearables. Aren’t we lucky to be able to take what we’ve learned with us and to look forward to another visit next year? Thanks, Sievers. You are a treasure!

How very nicely said, Karen. We’ve always felt that one of the keys of the Sievers experience is our Washington Island location. Being surrounded by natural beauty is a big part of being creative. Thank you for sharing!
