March is proving to be contradictory, as usual. There have been snowstorms, windstorms and thunderstorms along with sunshine and alternating warm or cold temperatures. We have yet to see a herald of spring but know we’ll be hearing new birds and seeing some green in the next couple of weeks.
The water and ice around the Island remind us to be patient.
We are in the midst of ordering yarns, books, patterns, fabrics and more for the upcoming season, including some new yarn additions from West Yorkshire Spinners, Baa Ram Ewe and Rowan.
Today we counted 277 registrations. It will be so good to see each of you and “catch up” since your last visit!
The last few days of March and first few days of April have been set aside for this year’s Quilts of Valor event, coordinated by Ellen Graf. After that, we plan to sand and re-finish the floor in the Sophie Studio before classes begin in June.
Everything is leading up to another great season at Sievers!
Donna Bichanich says
Really looking forward to my time on the island. Always so good to renew friendships.
Carolyn Foss says
Hi Donna, we’re very glad we’ll be seeing you in September. It will be warm and golden then!

that sunset could have been Hawaii except for the snow. Looking forward to seeing you in July and October
Carolyn Foss says
Sounds like I’ll have to get myself to Hawaii someday! It will be great to see you twice this season Alice!

We saw a robin in our front yard yesterday!!! Lots of geese around ; I think they were the lazy ones who never flew south I the Fall.
I’m ready for Spring even though this was a kinder winter than we usually see.

Carolyn Foss says
Seeing a robin would be lovely. The red-winged blackbirds generally are the first, maybe within the next week or two. I’m watching for them!
Sara Smith says
Yes Carolyn, I always listen for the red-winged blackbirds too! But not today. It’s snowing again.
Carolyn Foss says
Hi Sara, I finally heard them (but they are still are “camera shy”) on the 12th of March.
Joyce Harms says
The anticipation of attending the Rag Rug weaving class in October started the moment I knew that I was successfully registered. I am so looking forward to it!
Carolyn Foss says
We were so excited to see your registration, Joyce! It has been too long. We are looking forward to seeing you in one of our favorite months of the year!

Signs of spring in Western Wisconsin:
~~~The ice on Lake Wissota begins to break up along our shore – cracks that allow small chunks of ice to move in the wind. Lake still ICE covered – but – the writing is on the wall (ice!).
~~~my snow drops are up, green with blooms on the stem ends ready to burst. How do they withstand this freezing, windy weather?
~~~The yard and grounds around our house are a mess of fallen leaves, twigs and limbs. Hours of work ahead! But, it is nice to think of “lawn work!”
~~~All our calendars remind us that daylight savings time begins this Sunday, March 12th!
Carolyn Foss says
Hi Susanne, I think you’ve penned an “Ode to Wisconsin Spring”! Your snowdrops are way ahead of any on the Island. Soon…
