What’s new here…
Today we start keeping regular hours in the shop (10am – 5pm) each day through October 31 and the Washington Island Art Association artists just started their five-day Open Workshop this morning, a very green, partly sunny day.
So starts our 39th season!
For the past 10 years, we’ve been fortunate to have Connie Westbrook as an employee, instructor and friend. She’s decided to step back from the employee role and more fully enjoy retirement time on the Island. No doubt we’ll see her at Sievers more than a few times while classes are in session! One of the new things Connie plans to do is explore all the surrounding islands, bays and harbors by boat with her husband, Dan. Allegria to you, Connie!
Cindra Hokkanen, Connie Westbrook, Ann Young, Kathleen Morris, Carolyn Foss and Patricia Hewitt
You will still see the friendly faces of Kathleen Morris (her 20th year as part of the Sievers crew!), Patricia Hewitt (seven years and counting…) and more of Stefanie Cornell and Barb Cornell.

Save the dates of September 28 and 29, 2018 for the next Sievers Gathering! The fiber arts garage sale and yarn shop sale will continue as in the past and we’re in the planning process for the rest, making changes to other elements of the Gathering. What’s new there…
Local businesses have been opening and re-opening through the months of April and May. As listed by the Washington Island Chamber of Commerce, one includes the return of the Sailor’s Pub. They will be open Wed-Sun for dinners and are under the management of Tom Nikolai from The Danish Mill. We understand their menu will be similar to Sailor’s Pub offerings from the past. New ventures include Island Adventure Company, located near the ferry dock in a freshly painted blue with white trim building. They will have rental kayaks, paddleboards and more as well as serving “grab-and-go” foods in their Point Grill. On Main Road, north of Nelsen’s Hall is Susie’s Sweets for gelato, Italian ices and candies with a projected opening of mid-June. We’re sure there will be other surprises to come from many of the other local businesses and entertainment venues.
Soon, we’ll be seeing you walk through our door!

Oh my goodness, I have tears welling in my eyes reading this spring newsletter at the very time I would be leaving for the island for the summer. I miss you; I miss the waking up of the island; and I miss my special place. But life goes forward with new experiences. Hugs to everyone. See you in October.

Our dear Karen, we miss you, too! We will be looking for you in October, one of our very favorite months. Take care until then, Carolyn
