It’s time to catch up on the two classes that took place before the Gathering, Beyond Beginning Weaving with Nancy Adams and Garment Construction Intensive with Daryl Lancaster. The beautiful handwovens as well as the exceptional garments created went well beyond anything either class description could convey.
Nancy guided her students through weave structures such as shadow weave, overshot and log cabin for shawls and elegant home handwovens.
This class was woven together in other ways, with friendships formed at Sievers. One of the students celebrated her 80th birthday during the week. What an inspiration!
Daryl brings so much to her class…her treasure trove of garments, skills and positive energy. New students work on the tailored “Daryl Jacket” and returning students explored beyond using their own handwovens or other special fabrics.
We are always impressed with the quality of the fabrics, especially the handwoven yardage some of the students have made specifically for this class.
A highlight for us during the week was a student who had attended only one other class at Sievers. It was 1981, 37 years ago, when she came for quilting with Doreen Speckmann. In Daryl’s class, she used a piecing approach for the front of a vest. How fun to be reacquainted after all these years!

We hope you’ll think of going beyond, too, in your next endeavor, fiber or otherwise!

Such beautiful creations in both classes. The island brings out the best in students and staff.
Can’t wait to see you all again some day.

Thanks, Rodna, what a nice compliment. We’ve missed you this year, but will look for you another time. Take care!
