Before these glorious days of September turn to more traditional fall weather, we wanted to share some Washington Island views and an old elementary school poem about this lovely month.
The goldenrod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown,
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.
Are curling in the sun,
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.
The hedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow nook,
And asters on the hillside
Makes aster in the brook.
The grape’s sweet odors rise,
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather,
And autumn’s best of cheer.

Thanks for the lovely feeling and views that support it. Well done.

Thanks! See you when the next-to-best month, October, comes along!
Mary Dow says
As always, Carolyn, thanks for the lovely reminders of Washington Island.
Carolyn Foss says
It’s a wonderful place to photograph. Thanks for staying in touch, Mary!
Lee Ann Wille says
Carolyn, thank you for sharing the beautiful autumn poem. This is a possibility to copy into one of my tiny Siever’s book necklaces! How fortunate you are to live in such a pretty part of the world, so quiet and serene.
Carolyn Foss says
Oh, how sweet to put that into one of your necklaces. Thanks for you recent note and recipes, too. It was so good to see you!
Karen Olson says
We were so happy to be back at Siever’s this past summer. And now you are telling us that another season is nearly over?! Thank you Carolyn, for your newsletters that keep us connected with your beloved island. We look forward to next season already!
Carolyn Foss says
We were so glad to have you here in class and enjoying some Island summer time. After posting yesterday, within about 4 hours, the wind came up from the northeast and cooled us off from mid-80’s down to upper 50’s this morning. It looks like fall is here to stay, now. Soon it will be time to share the beautiful golds and reds. Thanks for your kind words!
Teresa Lemcke says
Thanks for such well done photos. I regret not being at Sievers this past summer. Sometimes life is just too busy. Would it be possible to get a Sievers calendar? I so enjoy using one as my appointment calendar in my purse. If you have one left, what would it cost to receive one? Thank you, Teresa Lemcke
Carolyn Foss says
We’ve missed you (Pat and Maurine, too!). Of course, yes on the calendar. If you want to send in a check for $5.25, that would cover the calendar (3.75) plus postage. Take care!
Ann Fischer says
The cranes reminded me of a fond WI memory. I was driving past the airport and noticed a pair of cranes walking next to each other on the runway. It was as if “hand-in-hand” they were taxiing getting ready to fly away.
Carolyn Foss says
That is great! They’ve been pretty hidden from early summer until now. They are so stately!
Eileen Elertson says
“The beauty of nature”….you capture it so well in your photography Carolyn. Thanks for sharing. And also for sharing the poem. Another lovely picture!
Thanks for another great week at Sievers.
