October on Washington Island is definitely a favorite! We can never get enough of the cool, crisp days and colorful woodland views. This year it seems the leaves have glowed more vibrantly and lasted longer than usual. We have savored every moment.
In these last few weeks, our studios were rented two separate times. Besides working on weaving, quilting and other projects, relaxation and exploration were part of each day.
Soon, more of the leaves will be on the ground than in the trees. We’re seeing the transition already as we begin this last week of October and the last week of our 2020 season. Another plus this time of year are later sunrises. We’ll savor these, too!

Love seeing the Fall colors on the other side of the Tension Zone. Our Fall, in Chicago will not have as many colors this year, mostly golden, and the leaves are falling very quickly, so enjoy your season of wonderful color.
Hope you are all well and staying warm. Miss you and sending virtual HUGS
Love, Linda

Hi Linda, We’ve been lucky that the leaves have hung on for so long. A few bare spots, but it’s still so pretty. There was a little layer of ice on them this morning, so we’ll see how long they last with our cold a.m. temperatures. We’re all doing well and hope you are too! We miss you too! Love, Carolyn

Oh, Carolyn, I love the pictures and treasure my memories of autumn in the midwest. Here in Hawaii our temps right now are in the 90’s and today, thankfully we are having rain after months of none. Your pictures and the glorious colors are just wonderful. Hopefully, all of you at Sievers are well and know that we can’t wait to get back for more of the pure joy that we enjoy at Sievers. With much aloha.
Carolyn Foss says
Thank you so much, Lynne! We love hearing the Hawaii weather report (a quick dose of 90 degrees might be nice, especially this morning when it got below freezing again)! We’re all well and hope you are too. It will be so good to see you and all our friends in the studios again! Until then, take good care and thanks for the aloha! Carolyn

Stunning pictures Carolyn, both of the natural beauty of the island and the handwoven pieces in the studio. As always, I appreciate all the time and talent you share.
Carolyn Foss says
Thanks, Rodna! Washington Island is always a great canvas and with few classes this year, it’s great to feature a lot of scenic photos. There’ll be more to come!
Take care,
Carolyn

Looks like you had a longer fall than we did. I Finished my fifth Katie’s Kep. I am thinking of making the fingerless mittens pattern with my leftover colors but I will probably need another couple of balls of base color. How long is the shop open this fall?
Carolyn Foss says
Hi Mary,
There’s still a lot of leaves…mostly brown…on the trees, but we’ll see what the wind does the next few days. Although the handmade things go back to the artists after November 1, we’re always here throughout the winter and so is the yarn, needles, etc! You might be at the top of the list for the number of Katie’s Kep makers. I’ll be starting #3 soon.
Thanks!
Carolyn
