September… not quite summer and not quite fall. It’s one of those in-between months that gives the best of both seasons and we often wish it would last a little longer than it does.
Re-scheduled to Saturday, September 12, Local Yarn Store Day was created by a committee of shop owners and yarn manufacturers to celebrate brick and mortar yarn shops. They note, “contrary to popular belief, the majority of yarn is purchased through local brick and mortar shops…”.
As a local yarn shop, we started small, but have expanded our weaving and knitting yarns over time and in particular since 1996 when classes moved from what is now the shop into the (then newly-built) Sophie Studio.
On September 12, we’ll have a few in-store specials and we’ll feature several new Sievers and Washington Island-centric colorways for the Katie’s Kep Fair Isle hat. This free pattern is associated with Shetland Wool Week, which would have been held September 26-October 4, 2020. Look for SWW again in 2021. Here are our inspirations and yarn kits using Jamieson & Smith 2-ply jumper weight:

If you’d like to have one or more sent to you, the best way to order using your credit card safely is through our Contact page. Or call us at 920-847-2264! Shipping and sales tax (for Wisconsin residents) would be added to your order.
Also scheduled in September is the W.I. Literary Festival. It is continuing this year, but in a virtual format on September 19-20. Several workshops are offered, including one with former Sievers instructor Marianne Fons. Check the link for more information. Although registration for each workshop is free, there is a suggested donation.
The Washington Island Ferry Line schedule changes in September and hours tend to scale back at several restaurants and shops. We’ll continue to stay open from 10-4 every day well into October, watching the leaves change on the trees day by day.

So much beauty in nature! And so much beauty in the Katie’s Kep Fair Isle hat kits you’ve put together. Love “color”, wish the Fall colors lasted longer. Thanks for sharing the beauty of the Island Carolyn. We are hoping to spend an over night on the island.
Hugs for all
Eileen

Carolyn – I’ve been in my stash . . . even though it’s sold out (and I can guess why) can you tell me the shade numbers for Sand Dunes? I may actually be close to having enough similar or actual matches. mj
Carolyn Foss says
Hi MJ,
They are:
2 of Color A – FC47
1-Color B – FC61
1-Color C – 2
1-Color D – 3
1 -Color E- FC34
We do still have some of these…just not FC61 or FC34.
Thanks for asking!
