“Unleash your creative spirit…” are the first four words in the class description of Ellen Graf’s recent Latest, Greatest Quilt class. Those words were similarly appropriate for the companion class, Japanese Temari: Four Seasons with Kathy Broer and Judie Yamamoto. They could certainly apply to any Sievers class!
The quilting students brought their ideas, fabrics or quilts in progress and with Ellen’s guidance and design experience, planned, pieced, pressed and sewed with creative spirit.
The “latest and greatest” of Kathy Broer’s Japanese Temari were on display for she and Judie’s class which focused on four stitches as interpreted by the seasons. Herringbone for Winter, Rose for Spring, Star for Summer and Spindle for Fall. The stunning samples of so many stitch possibilities went well beyond the seasons here on earth, forming a galaxy.
The latest and greatest today is happening inside and outside the Walter Studio with Anne Landre’s Shibori and Indigo Dyeing class and the Siberian Iris garden in full bloom.
From the first class of the season to the last, each one could be considered the latest and greatest!

The colors and designs are brilliant! They remind me of what our guests from southern California said last week when they were here. “Everything is so GREEN! and ALIVE! The gifts from nature always astound with beauty. Thanks to all of the artists who created the beautiful quilts!

Hi Karen,
What a great comment about our midwest summers from your California friends. We’re lucky to be surrounded by that and the creativity from all of our students and teachers.
