February 1st will be here in only three weeks! That day, all of our 2024 classes will be open for registration and the class descriptions, along with complete information, will be available on our website. The site will be in “maintenance mode” soon, but available again for registration on February 1.
Featured on the cover of the 2024 brochure is the handweaving of Judith Yamamoto. Judie first came to Sievers as a student in Mary Sue Fenner’s 1981 Basic Weaving class and the following year, she offered a class in knitting. Since then, she’s gone on to offer another 100 classes at Sievers and has been a student here 35 times. Thank you, Judie, for being part of Sievers for so many years!
Most of our instructors are returning in 2024 and we welcome one new teacher this year, Shawn Simmons. We first met Shawn in 2017 as a student in Deb Jones’ Beginning Spinning and Rainbow Dyeing class. She’s continued to take classes each year and for the past two summers has worked in the Sievers Shop. Shawn is offering two classes, Learn to Knit & Crochet and Knit Stitch Sampler. Retiring from teaching at Sievers is Donna Kallner. Donna had been a teacher here since 1999, offering 55 classes including Willow Garden Art, Gourd Vessels, Local Color: Landscape Surface Design, Altered Images for Fiber Art and Nålbinding. She first came to Sievers as a student in 1993 for Jo Campbell-Amsler’s Beginning Willow class. Over the years Donna was very involved in helping with our Sievers Gatherings and other events, including making special name tags for each student in our 30th anniversary year. Thank you, Donna, for who you are and all you’ve shared with us! She’s the embodiment of a “Sievers Achiever”! Also retiring from teaching is Janine Bajus. We met Janine through Mary Germain and Sandy De Master who encouraged us to invite her to first teach her signature Fair Isle Design class in 2015. Janine’s classes were full of enthusiastic knitters, working out colorways for personalized, fabulous Fair Isle knits. We still see our students using what they learned in Janine’s classes in their knitting projects. Our best to both Donna and Janine, forever part of our Sievers family!
Again…registration begins February 1st. Classes that receive more registrations during the first week (Thursday, February 1 to Wednesday, February 7 at 4pm Central Time) than have space available will be subject to a drawing and we will begin a waiting list for those classes. All registrations received during that registration week time frame will be treated equally, that is, there’s no advantage to register at midnight on February 1st.
