Classes in Beginning Weaving on a Table Loom, Beyond Beginning: Weaving, and Cartonnage: Four-Drawer Tower Box have made their mark these past few weeks of August and we expect those students went home with “happiness in their hands”, as has been done many times before.
Starting at the beginning, Nancy Frantz gave students the opportunity to try weaving while learning the basics of preparing a warp and dressing the loom. Students then went on to weave a sampler or a set of mug rugs, all in a matter of three days.
Beyond beginning projects appropriate for those with some weaving experience was the focus of Susan Frame’s class. From scarves to rep weave to double weave wool blankets, the class and students definitely went above and beyond, and did so in just four days!
Boxes within a box formed the design for the four-drawer towers made by students in Nancy Akerly’s Cartonnage class. Using bookboard and specialty papers (each one better than the next…how could one choose?), made these boxes with a removeable lid, base and interior boxes in step formation not only towers, but treasures.
As we close out the month of August, we look forward to our last 10 classes. Whether beginning or beyond, in every class the students will no doubt be checking off all the boxes for “happiness in your hands” through the remainder of our 2024 season.
