February 1st will be here soon! That day, all of our 2025 classes will be open for registration and the class descriptions, along with complete information, will be available on our website. (Right now, if you navigate our site, it still reflects our 2024 season of classes.) The site will be in “maintenance mode” soon, but available again for registration on February 1.
Featured on the cover of the 2025 brochure are willow baskets made by Jo Campbell-Amsler. Jo first came to Sievers as a student in Char TerBeest-Kudla’s 1981 Willow Basketry class and began offering rib-style willow classes in 1991. This year will mark the 58th class she has offered at Sievers. Jo has also been a student here several times, coordinates the annual Willow Gathering at Sievers with Lee Zieke Lee and organizes and hosts international basketry tours. Thank you, Jo, for all you share with your students, with the basketry community and with us!
Most of our instructors are returning in 2025 and we welcome back both Susan Hoffmann and Deb Sharpee this year. Retiring from teaching at Sievers are Jerry Landwehr and John Rezachek. Jerry, who has island ties, offered Woodcarving classes here since 2015. From carving songbirds to walking sticks, Jerry led many students in the art of carving basswood, butternut, cedar and maple. His own work and class samples were superb. John first came to Sievers as a student in 2005 for the Bent Willow Chair class. Having made several chairs, he was approached by Ken and Michelle Workowski when they stepped down from teaching. John continued the class in 2023 and 2024. For years, we’ve understood how difficult it is to find the right willow, plus knew the extensive work needed to prepare each piece for class use. We do hope to be able to offer these classes again sometime. Our thanks go out to both Jerry and John for sharing their talents these past years.
We are bringing back a 5-day Weaving Alumni Studio. Scheduled for July 21-26, this is an opportunity for those who have taken intermediate to advanced weaving classes at Sievers to work in the company of other weavers. To register, you must be able to work completely independently, without assistance, on your chosen project.
Again…registration begins February 1st. Classes that receive more registrations during the first week (Saturday, February 1 to Friday, February 7 at 4pm Central Time) than have space available will be subject to a drawing and we will begin a waiting list for those classes.
