Wow! Where did the time go? Our final class of the 2017 season, Rag Rug Weaving with Deb Sharpee, finished last Saturday. It seems like such a short time ago when we greeted the first students on June 5. As they say, time flies when you’re having fun!
As usual, the rag rug studio was filled with colorful fabrics, great design inspirations and ideas, laughter and friendship. From the start when the carpet warp rolled onto the looms to the finish when quite a variety of rugs and runners rolled off, not a heddle, shuttle, sewing machine, student or teacher were idle.
Instead of full-sized rugs, some of the students wove runners like the one on the left. In preparation for the rug on the right, the poinsettia fabric was treated with bleach to soften the color palette. A few shots here and there of the untreated fabric added contrast.
As a bonus, the fall leaves stayed at peak during the week. Blue sky, clouds or rain, the colors continuously surprise us as they slowly change and create new golden avenues each day.
As soon as one season ends, thoughts turn to the next. It won’t be too long before we begin planning our 2018 classes, the 40th season at Sievers School of Fiber Arts.

Beautiful photos as usual Carolyn! It’s always so hard to go south on the ferry 🙁
A Siever’s class is such a gift of learning, rest, re-charging and reconnecting with wonderful old friends and meeting new friends. Thanks for being there!
Carolyn Foss says
Thank you, Kathe! Although we provide the environment, it’s all of the wonderful teachers and students (like yourself) who make Sievers a special place.

When I look back, I can hardly believe how wonderfully full our time at Sievers has been. My basket room and home is overflowing and I look forward to adding more next year. Happy Holidays everyone.
Carolyn Foss says
There are never enough baskets, Kay! Happy Holidays to you, too and we’ll be looking for you next summer! Take good care, the Sievers Crew.

Just wanted to say a huge Thank You to everyone at Sievers for making my first “Sievers” weeks so memorable and enjoyable. I will carry fond memories of the Summer/WInter weaving class, especially the 1.5 hours of “When the lights went out!!!” and the Rag Rug class. Making new friends and learning from each person was also a wonderful part of my time at Sievers. Have a safe and restful remaining Autumn season and stay warm during the winter months on Washington Island.
Carolyn Foss says
Thank you, Elizabeth, for your lovely comments and for joining us for two weaving classes in a row…not an easy feat! Happy Weaving!
