Description
Students new to Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian knitting will begin with an ornament-sized mitten to learn techniques such as picot-edge hem, thumb insertion, and shaping. After that, design your own pair or another project. Those with Latvian mitten experience may design a hat, cowl, mittens, tote or sweater.
Mary Germain has knit for most of her life and taught various fiber arts for 30+ years. As owner of The Wool Works yarn shop in Milwaukee, WI from 1985-96, Mary learned about Latvian knitting from a dear customer. This developed into a focus on Latvian knitting and other ethnic knitting traditions such as Fair Isle knitting. Mary is in love with color and when it comes to knitting – the more color, the merrier. www.marygtheknitter.blogspot.com
