We want to share some images from the Sievers Gathering with you, held September 27-29. Starting with two workshops on Thursday afternoon all the way through the “wine-down” on Saturday evening, it was a fun, fiber-filled weekend! In the Bead Embroidery/Kumihimo workshop taught by Francie Broadie, students added bead embroidery around a cabochon and finished their pendant with a kumihimo braid. Geri Rock’s students completed two splint-woven baskets in the day-and-a-half Beginning Basketry workshop. Saturday’s events began with the ever-popular fiber arts garage sale. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped organize all the many items. The garage sale brought in just under $3,600! Some of the proceeds from the garage sale will be shared with the W.I. Rec Center, Trinity Lutheran […]
Another Gathering Update
We are just a few days away from the 19th Sievers Gathering! Tomorrow we’ll begin our two Gathering Workshops and are looking forward to seeing all of you who plan to attend any of our events. Some of what’s been added to the Gathering weekend since the last update include a silent auction of baskets made by Jeanette Biederman and Rich Prange in the vendor area on Saturday. Joining the demos/show & tell in the Walter Studio on Saturday afternoon will be Cindy Steinke and Ginnie Killough with their handmade, tailored garments. Both Cindy and Ginnie have been long-time students at Sievers and just finished the Garment Construction class with Daryl Lancaster. They’ve brought a beautiful array of their finished pieces. Diane […]

November notes
For the most part, it’s just the Sievers crew working in the office during the weekdays now. What was a bustling studio just a couple of weeks ago is quiet, waiting for the next season of classes. This is the time of year for a quick re-cap of the 2017 season. There were 375 students enrolled in 41 classes scheduled. 65 of those students were new to Sievers. Of the 41 classes, 12 were filled and many others were just one or two shy of being filled. (Thank you!) The top 10 states that our students have come from over the years are: Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Florida, Arizona, Ohio and California. States/districts with only one student representing them […]
What’s new here and there
What’s new here… Today we start keeping regular hours in the shop (10am – 5pm) each day through October 31 and the Washington Island Art Association artists just started their five-day Open Workshop this morning, a very green, partly sunny day. So starts our 39th season! For the past 10 years, we’ve been fortunate to have Connie Westbrook as an employee, instructor and friend. She’s decided to step back from the employee role and more fully enjoy retirement time on the Island. No doubt we’ll see her at Sievers more than a few times while classes are in session! One of the new things Connie plans to do is explore all the surrounding islands, bays and harbors by boat with […]
December Views and Sievers News
Only a dusting of snow so far for the Island and it doesn’t look like we’ll see any in the near future. So, for now, we’re enjoying the mostly sunny skies and the views they allow us. Our final enrollment number from 2015 was 370 students, an average of 9+ students per class and 78% of the students enrolled had been here previously. A number of our new students this year came with a friend who had been to Sievers for a previous class. Thanks to all of you who are Sievers ambassadors, in one way or another! You may recall that for many years (34) we have held a biennial Sievers Gathering in even-numbered years, which would mean a […]
