Dear Sievers Family and Friends, As spring arrives on Washington Island, we have always anticipated meeting new students, welcoming back those who are returning for class and greeting visitors in the shop. This spring, we, like you, are navigating our daily lives by placing the safety and health of those around us at the forefront. At the same time, we are all waiting to engage in the shared experiences that give us joy. Using the guidelines that are available, we feel the responsible thing to do at this time is to cancel our classes in June (Classes 1 through 7). The nature of our classes and dormitory housing, with groups of people working and living in common spaces, often using […]
An update
Hello dear Sievers friends, With the most recent “Stay at Home” order for Wisconsin extended to May 26, 2020, we want to let you know that we’ll be making a decision on our June classes (Classes 1 through 7) during the week of April 27. We’ll be posting that information here, on our social media sites and will be directly notifying any students registered for those classes via email or phone. We’ll also let you know about what’s “in store” for the Sievers Shop as we go forward. This is the time of year that we reflect back on our time spent together and at the same time anticipate seeing you come through the door. More than one student has […]

One month
It’s been a month since our last post. A month that seems such a long time ago now, even as the news and circumstances seem to speed up more each day. We are now taking turns coming in to the office, checking phone messages and emails, in line with the latest Wisconsin guidelines. Our first class of the season is set to begin on June 1. At this point, we plan to continue with the schedule as it stands. Of course, if there are any changes, we will let you know right away and as always, if Sievers were to cancel a class, students receive a full refund of all fees paid. We’ve been receiving new things for the shop […]
Sievers News
It was February 27, 2008 when the first “News from Sievers School” blog was posted to our website. It was a bare bones edition with no photos, no email notification of the post and no social media sharing. We’re glad for the changes since then! The post began by saying, “We are happy to add this news page and share what’s happening at Sievers with you. Look for general news, photos, Island events and more. We plan to post news at least once each month, but I’m sure you’ll find that we’ve added something new more often than that. We hope you enjoy the Sievers News.” The rest of the post included a note about the “Aquafishy” box design our […]
Winter-lude
As we prepare for the upcoming season of classes, we are enjoying the beauty of the quiet season that surrounds us. An all-day gentle snowfall makes for a perfect opportunity for a drive around Washington Island where you can basically stop the car in the road and walk here and there to take photos. Winter scenes also make for great views from our desks in the Sievers office (even if they’re not quite like these). Starting February 1st, it will begin to feel like spring, summer and fall combined and we will be warmed by hearing from you via our website and telephone! As Walter Schutz wrote in the very first Sievers School brochure, “You will create new friendships here […]
2020 Sievers Preview
February 1st is approaching quickly! That day, all of our 2020 classes will be open for registration. Descriptions along with complete information will be available on our website, https://sieversschool.com. The site will be in “maintenance mode” soon, but available again for registration on February 1st. Note: The tabs and links you see now on this site are from last season. Featured on the cover of this year’s brochure are handwovens by Nancy Adams which were on display during her “Four Shafts or Less” weaving class in 2019. It has been many years since weaving was featured on the Sievers brochure cover. Thank you, Nancy! Many of the same instructors from 2019 will be returning to teach in 2020 and we welcome […]
