Our last Sievers in Winter class began this afternoon, a Knitting Retreat led by Mary Germain and Sandy De Master with 16 knitters, accompanied by hundreds of balls of yarn, needles and patterns…and projects? The 2016 print brochure is on its way to us so that it can be on its way to you. They should be all mailed out next week. Through our website, we’ve now registered over 255 students, a wonderful start for our summer/fall season. Mark your calendars to tune into Discover Wisconsin on Saturday, February 20 or Sunday, February 21. Specific broadcast times, channels and dates can be found on the Discover Wisconsin website, or watch it there online. The program can be viewed in certain locations […]
An Advance Look at the 2016 Class Schedule
On Monday, February 1st, registration will open! On that day, all of the 2016 class descriptions and complete registration information will be on our website, https://sieversschool.com. Our 2016 brochure cover features colorful hand-spun yarn from a Deb Jones spinning class. The full printed brochure will be mailed by the end of February. This year, Sievers will have a Registration Week, starting on Monday, February 1st and ending at 4:00 pm Central Time, Monday, February 8th. Winter Mode
We’re officially in winter mode now that snow has fallen, ice is starting to form and our first Sievers in Winter class, Rag Rug Weaving with Deb Sharpee will begin Monday afternoon, January 11th. That will be followed by Basketry with Jeanette Biederman and Rich Prange (January 22-24) and Knitting Retreat with Sandy De Master and Mary Germain (February 17-20). The Island is showing winter colors in both Washington Harbor and Jackson Harbor. Thinking ahead to our 2016 season, some instructors will be returning to teach (Betty Glynn Carlson, Rita Hagenbruch, Mary Hettmansperger and Rich Prange) and some will be on sabbatical (Chad Hagen, Ruth Manning and Carol Rhoades). All of the remaining teachers who offered classes in 2015 will […]
Greetings Then and Now
As the year comes to an end there’s a tendency to look back. Lately we’ve been going through some files and these greetings from the past caught our attention. The silk screened cards made by Walter Schutz and the photos of a December much different from the one we’re experiencing this year are now making their way into your modern “mailbox” through this newsletter. Each and every year, from the cards shown above in 1983, 1985 and 1986 and up through today, what hasn’t changed is our message… “we look forward to renewing our friendship and invite you back in the coming year”. From all of us at Sievers (Ann, Butch, Cindra, Carolyn, Barb, Kathleen, Connie, Pat, Stef and Marina), […]
December Views and Sievers News
Only a dusting of snow so far for the Island and it doesn’t look like we’ll see any in the near future. So, for now, we’re enjoying the mostly sunny skies and the views they allow us. Our final enrollment number from 2015 was 370 students, an average of 9+ students per class and 78% of the students enrolled had been here previously. A number of our new students this year came with a friend who had been to Sievers for a previous class. Thanks to all of you who are Sievers ambassadors, in one way or another! You may recall that for many years (34) we have held a biennial Sievers Gathering in even-numbered years, which would mean a […]

This is November
To be honest, this photo was taken at the end of October, although of all the Island roads, this spot along Detroit Harbor Road looking towards the west is probably still one of the best for remaining color. As you can see, the traffic patterns have changed a bit, with turkeys finding even this usually busy road a little quieter now. Other birds are enjoying Island waters on their migration. Whether at the Jackson Harbor Ridges or at Little Lake, geese and ducks are taking advantage of these warm November days and resting for a spell. A little Fall remains, but the stark branches stand out more and more against the sunset. There are plenty of reasons to enjoy […]
