Basket week is in progress with two classes taught by Jeanette Biederman and Rich Prange. The first class, Basket Weaving Basics started Tuesday and finished yesterday while the second, Twill Basketry, started this morning. We determined that it has been almost 20 years that Jeanette and Rich have been teaching basketry in the winter here at Sievers. What a great tradition! The most recent addition to the Sievers Permanent Collection is a Cherokee Tray made by Jeanette, now hanging in the Sophie Studio. It makes our hearts happy to have this basket as part of the Permanent Collection, but even happier to share time at Sievers with Jeanette and Rich!
Meet Our New Teachers for 2013
Carol Riedner brings her love of and talent for working with color to her life as a fiber artist. A retired K-8 Art teacher, Carol came to Sievers as a student for the first time in 2002. Nuno and wet felting are ongoing creative pursuits for Carol in recent years and art to wear is her passion. She sells her work in galleries and at shows and makes her home in Fond du Lac, WI. We are delighted to have Carol as a Sievers instructor and are looking forward to her 2-day class, “Nuno Felting With A Twist”. Karen Tembreull is continuously inspired by the abundance of natural material that surrounds her Upper Michigan home studio. She has made baskets […]
Cutting, Pressing and Sewing
Those building blocks of quilting are being taught this week by Ellen Graf in our first Sievers in Winter class of 2013. Ten students are building their blocks into Log Cabin quilts. Ellen’s step-by-step method helps show the way for the students, some of whom are new quilters, some self-taught and some more experienced. One of Ellen’s quilts: This is one focused group of students, but they plan to take time tonight for a potluck dinner in the studio (with spouses) before class ends tomorrow. This is a Sievers in Winter class and this is Sievers, but where is winter?
