The 2014 Sievers Gathering
What a wonderful weekend we had! The workshops, Daryl Lancaster’s Friday evening program and the many events on Saturday, all surrounded by the loveliest weather. Seeing all of you who were able to attend the Gathering was the best part. Late Friday afternoon, the “Landscape ‘Painting’ on Fabric” workshop participants had some of their ready-to-frame pieces displayed. Friday evening, after cookies, coffee and cider, Daryl Lancaster presented her program “Parallel Threads that Parallel Life”, sharing her story and how it is incorporated into her garments. On Saturday, the garage sale led off the Gathering events. The total raised at the garage sale was just over $2,300.00. Besides improvements to the barn at Sievers, the proceeds will be shared with the Art and Nature Center and […]

All visitors are welcome and all events are open to the public. Here’s what’s waiting for you… Workshops – Three workshops are scheduled during the Gathering. For the first time, two of them are one and one-half day sessions […]
April (Snow) Showers Bring May Flowers?
My intent here was to provide a short-term time lapse view of the Walter Studio in the midst of a spring thaw. What we have today though, is Spring going in the wrong direction. Perhaps checking the weather forecast a little closer may have convinced me to postpone this posting until later, but here we are… There have been a few signs of Spring on the Island and at Sievers. We welcome back the Sandhill cranes… Yarns, books and other items for the shop have been arriving daily. New this year will be yarns from Isager Yarns and Madelinetosh. We are arranging all these lovely things now so they can greet you when the calendar turns to May!

In Summer, Sievers is Cool
There are a lot of cool things going on at Sievers this week! The garments in Daryl Lancaster’s class are adding up and there’s still time for more as the extended part of the class continues until Saturday morning. From rolls of handwoven, nuno-felted (or other) yardage emerge beautifully tailored jackets and more. Sometime soon, Daryl will post more photos on her own blog, http://weaversew.com/wordblog/. Check it out! In Rita Hagenbruch’s Loom-Structured Lace Weaves class, a table runner, placemats and napkins, scarf and shawl were planned, woven and admired late on Thursday afternoon alongside Rita’s own lacy plaid handwoven blankets and throws. You can see more of Rita’s work in […]
Sievers Slide Show
This year, the great majority of our classes begin with an afternoon introduction with the start of class following immediately. Because of that, we’d like to share with you an online version of what used to be our Sunday evening slide show. This gives an overview of classes this year, beginning and ending with a spring and fall photo of East Side Road here on Washington Island. [slideshow_deploy id=’2930′]
Under Our Wings: Quilts of Valor Event at Sievers
On Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, Sievers will be hosting at least nine teams of coaches and rookies working on Quilts of Valor. The Quilts of Valor program originated ten years ago when a Blue Star mom, Catherine Roberts, had a goal to cover all returning deployed service men and women touched by war with a reminder of America’s appreciation and gratitude. A Quilt of Valor is a generous lap-sized quilt made of quality fabrics. On March 8th, experienced quilters (coaches) will bring their sewing machines and prepare the fabric by cutting and pressing. Any rookies who wish to come that day to observe are also welcome. On March 9th, non-quilters (rookies) sew the 1/4″ seams and eat chocolate (!) according to Island coordinator, Ellen Graf. At […]
