Small, unexpected surprises are appearing these first few days of December. A routine trip to the Island Exchange (dump) turns into a unique bird-watching moment.
Just down the road from the post office, the first ice has formed on Detroit Harbor.
The same is true in Jackson Harbor.
Another eagle sighting on Airport Road, across from the vineyard. Two within a week at close range is a nice treat!
Checking out the vegetation off the back deck, is a “no-fear deer”.
We hope you are looking for small, unexpected surprises, too!

Darn good photo of that deer

Just wanted you to know how VERY MUCH I appreciate your website. I summered on the Island for approx. 50 summers. My heart is on Washington Island forever. My Aunt, Helen Carlin had the the old boys camp on Jackson Harbor and around “the point.” It looks as beautiful now as it always did. My brother, my daughter and I hope to get back there for a day or two next summer if we’re all still around. Thank you again for the great website!

Thank you, Molly. One of our favorite places is Carlin’s Point! I’ll have to take my camera there again soon to capture and share its beautiful views.
