On Saturday, February 1st, registration will open! All of the class descriptions and complete information will be on our website, www.sieversschool.com. We want to thank Stephanie Lewis Robertson for allowing us to photograph her piece in progress, “Willow Patch”, that she was working on during her Making Your Mark: Fabric Printing and Dyeing class last August. This will also be the cover for our full brochure, mailed out at the end of February. In the meantime, here’s a look at some of the classes we’ll be offering in 2014 Sievers Class Schedule List 2014 Handwoven Bags and Totes with Connie Westbrook June 3 – 8 Patchwork Birch Bark Basket with Karen Tembreull June 12 – 15 Machine Quilting with Julie Lambert June 26 […]
Snow and Ice and Cold
With the sun out today and sub-zero temperatures this morning, a ride along Wickman Drive, Sunrise Drive and Old Camp Road captured the many shades of winter blues and whites with a steamy Lake Michigan in the background.
January Winter Class Happenings
In the last two weeks, students have been quilting, sewing and knitting in the Sophie Studio, surrounded by snow and sub-zero temperatures. Ellen Graf’s “Latest, Greatest Quilt” class took place from January 6 – 10 and seven students worked on varied projects, from finishing by hand a quilt started more than twenty years ago, to designing a modern quilt. Two beginning students learned the basics of quilting using the nine-patch block.
What’s New in 2014
Tucked warmly inside the office at Sievers during these winter days, we continue to work on our 2014 season. We will welcome three new instructors this year, Julie Lambert (Machine Quilting), John Mullarkey (Tablet Weaving) and Kay Rashka (Etched Metalwork Jewelry). All three come recommended by both existing Sievers instructors and students and we’ve already had the pleasure of meeting John when he visited here for an afternoon last summer. Julie Lambert started quilting in 1985 and began machine quilting three years later. Now it is her specialty and favorite part of making a quilt. Her quilts have been juried into national shows and received awards along the way including Best Machine Quilting. Julie lives in Erlanger, KY and you can visit her and her quilts at www.julieylambert.com.
Nature’s Christmas Colors

A Winter Week in Review
From nature’s etchings, due to winter winds or animals looking for shelter in the snow, to capturing some of the morning or late afternoon golden light on the evergreens against the clean, white snow it feels like you’re viewing a Christmas card everywhere you turn. We’re looking forward to our January and February Sievers in Winter classes. Quilting with Ellen Graf, Weaving with Connie Westbrook, Knitting with Sandy De Master and Mary Germain and Basketry with Jeanette Biederman and Rich Prange all have good enrollments. Ellen shared a photo of her own “Latest, Greatest Quilt” with us: For the basketmakers, here are more project options, the Arrows or Winnebago Picnic Basket. In the office, we’ve […]
What We Do in the Winter
Now that it’s winter for sure (just look at the thermometer), we’re busy doing some of the same things we do in the summer such as working, volunteering, serving on committees and attending community events. We have a bit more time though for other activities…fiber arts wise and otherwise. Patricia Hewitt knit and Connie Westbrook wove new shawls and agreed to model them for this photo. I found Kathleen Morris working with the Trinity Quilters, squaring off pieces of fabric in their upstairs location while the downstairs space is being remodeled. Ann, Carolyn and Cindra took time out for lunch at the Danish Mill. (Thanks to 3W Media’s Barbara Luhring for taking the photo.) We […]
